Pre-sale prep checklist
Do these before you list or call a buyer. The more boxes you tick, the more you get for the car.
The car itself
- โ Vacuum the interior and wipe down the dashboard
- โ Wash the outside (especially before taking photos)
- โ Remove all personal items (glovebox, boot, door pockets, sun visor)
- โ Check oil and coolant levels
- โ Check all tyres including spare โ pressure and tread depth (โฅ4mm ideal)
- โ Test all bulbs (headlights, brake lights, indicators, fog, reverse)
- โ Make sure all warning lights are off
- โ Test wipers (front and rear) and windscreen washers
- โ Test air-con / heating
- โ Pair phone with infotainment, then unpair to remove your data
Items to hand over
- โ All physical keys (usually 2)
- โ Locking wheel nut key
- โ Owner's manual / handbook
- โ Service book (or printed digital service record)
- โ Receipts for recent major work (cambelt, clutch, tyres, etc.)
- โ Spare wheel / repair kit
- โ Roof box, parcel shelf, tonneau cover (if applicable)
- โ Any factory-fit accessories you've kept
Photos to take (for an accurate quote)
- โ Front 3/4 (driver side and passenger side)
- โ Rear 3/4 (both sides)
- โ Side-on (both sides, showing wheels)
- โ Front and rear straight-on
- โ Interior โ front seats, rear seats, boot
- โ Dashboard with engine on (shows miles + any warning lights)
- โ Any damage, scratches or dents (close-up)
- โ Service book / receipts (a few key pages)
Paperwork to gather
- โ V5C (logbook) in your name
- โ Current MOT certificate
- โ Two forms of ID (driving licence + utility bill matching V5 address)
- โ Bank details for payment
